The Journey
SPANNING THREE GENERATIONS THE FAIRWAY NAME HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY FOR OVER 40 YEARS.
WITH CHRIS, HIS SON STEVE, AND HIS GRANDSON CHRISTOPHER, THE FAMILY SHARES A LOVE FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY.
Chris started his automotive career as a motor mechanic in 1959 then in 1970 moved to driving trucks. Chris would service his own and his co-workers trucks using the 11 years of experience as a motor mechanic. Noticing this is where his true passion lay, in 1977 Chris moved on from truck driving to establish a company with his good friend, also named Chris. Everlast Exhausts & Chris Two Motors was founded, in Charles street, Coburg.
In 1982, Chris Two Motors and Everlast exhausts moved to Fawkner, as Everlast Exhausts. During the move to Fawkner, Chris Two Motors became Fairway Car Sales.
Growing up around cars and spending much of his childhood in the workshop with his dad, Steve's passion for cars stemmed from his fathers. Steve began his mechanics apprenticeship at Everlast Exhausts in 1986. In a bid to further his knowledge of the industry, Steve finished the final years of his apprenticeship at Lance Dixon Holden. In 1990 Steve moved back to the family business at Everlast and re-launched Lada Cars in Australia.
Steve became the Australian representative for Lada Russia, gaining the title of sole distributor for Lada vehicles and Lada parts Nationally, covering both import and export of new parts and vehicles. In addition to this the family continued growing Fairway Car Sales.
In 1992, they opened up the second self serve Car Lovers Car Wash in Australia, next to the Everlast Exhausts site.
Fairway Car Sales had outgrown its humble spot beside the workshop, and the Fairway Car Sales Mega site was opened further down Sydney Road, with this expansion Steve also started to rapidly grow his wholesale operation.
In 2010, after a push to move the family business closer to his family, Steve decided to move Fairway Car Sales to Port Melbourne and rebrand as Fairway Motor Traders. The retail side of the business was reduced as wholesale grew rapidly.
Everlast Exhaust was closed in 2012 and Chris retired as a motor mechanic moving across to Fairway Motor Traders to help with operations.
In 2013 after commencing his final year of schooling and a brief semester studying architecture Christopher joined Fairway Motor Traders as a junior valuer. Having been around the family business since he was in primary school, he too shares the same love of cars as his grandfather, and father.
